LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Nearly a hundred teenagers underwent free circumcision services provided by two non-government organizations (NGOs) this week at the Quezon Premier Hotel in this city.

Quezon provincial Board Member Elizabeth Licup Sio spearheaded the “Libreng Tuli” (free circumcision) services through the NGOs Bethsaida Community-Based Inclusive Development, Inc. and Sio Cares Foundation beginning Tuesday.

Sio said the free circumcision services are on-going and will also cover parts of Quezon province’s 2nd District this summer, in time for the school vacation.

She said that the NGOs are advocating towards healthy body, physical wellness and personal hygiene, especially among the children of indigent families who could not afford the services of hospitals or private clinics.

Dr. Rollie Yap and Dr. Ram Yap, attending physicians in the free circumcision services, noted that many parents encouraged their boys to avail of the free circumcision services.

They said the parents also appreciated that the services came with free medicines.

Around 200 parents thanked Sio over their children undergoing the so-called “rite of passage to manhood”. (Gideon Belen/PNA)
