DOH Calabarzon to put anti-mosquito screens in public schools

MANILA — Government health personnel in Calabarzon will install insecticide-treated screens in public schools in the region to protect children who have been injected with the Dengvaxia vaccine, a Department of Health (DOH) official said Wednesday.

“We are now identifying the public schools with the most number of Dengvaxia vaccinees as our initial target,” DOH 4A (Calabarzon) Regional Director Eduardo Janairo said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Janairo said they will try to gradually install anti-mosquito screens in all public schools in the region.

“While we cannot really complete them all at the same time, I believe gradually we can do that,” he added.

The initiative is one of the programs to provide overall protection to children who have been vaccinated during the school-based Dengvaxia vaccination program in 2016, said Janairo.

He said they have been monitoring the children’s health from the time the vaccine was administered.

Other efforts include the continuous conduct of Dengvaxia forum among parents of recipients and the monitoring of Dengvaxia fastlanes in public and private hospitals.

Janairo said they started distributing dengue kits, which contain mosquito nets, insect repellant lotions, soaps, Vitamin C, multivitamins, paracetamol, and a thermometer. (Leilani Junio/PNA)
