Church prays for Nueva Ecija massacre victims

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — A bishop on Sunday offered prayers for the souls of six family members who were killed by a jealous farm help in San Leonardo town, this province.

In a statement dated April 22, Bishop Sofronio Bancud of the Diocese of Cabanatuan also cited the police for its vigorous effort that led to the arrest of the suspect.

“The parishes, religious people and the Diocesan Council of the Laity of the Diocese of Cabanatuan would like to extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the massacre victims in Barangay Tambo Adorable, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija,” Bancud said.

“With faith to Christ who has risen, we would entrust to our Lord the Creator their souls,” he added, saying the incident has shocked the people.

Acknowledging police effort, Bancud prayed that justice will be served in accordance with the processes of the law.

Police arrested at about 7:45 pm on Friday the suspect, identified as Jessie Tesoro, 34, a resident of Capas, Tarlac, who rented, along with nine other family members, a house in San Leonardo to work as a farm worker for a daily wage of PHP200 a day.

Tesoro was charged with multiple murder and frustrated murder for killing the six family members, including his live-in partner Jennifer Cariaga and two minors.

A woman survived the attack but with hack wound in the nape and had her fingers amputated.
