San Pablo City cops get body cams for anti-illegal drug ops

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna — The city police station received on Thursday an initial 10 units of body cameras which can be used in anti-illegal drug and anti-criminality operations.

City Mayor Loreto S. Amante personally handed the 10 units of body cameras to city chief of police Supt. Hermogenes D. Cabe and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer PO2 Ma. Danica Eve Camado.

Amante said the cameras will be used by the city police station’s anti-drug operations to properly document the anti-crime operations and as an effective equipment to deter abuse and harassment by some members of the law enforcers during the conduct of their operations and arrests.

Early this year, then Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said that they were encouraging the use of body cameras and other gadgets whenever available during anti-illegal drug operations.

The move was contained in the eight-page PNP supplemental operation guidelines and adherence to policies on anti-illegal drugs campaign that Dela Rosa signed last Jan. 19.

Some quarters welcomed the use of the body cameras here because these gadgets would provide more transparency during the operations thus raising the public trust on law enforcers during the conduct of their anti-illegal drug operations. (Ruben E. Taningco/PNA)
