DOH to continuously monitor Dengvaxia recipients

MANILA— An official of the Department Health (DOH) on Monday assured that even if recipients of the Dengvaxia vaccine will transfer to other schools they would still be monitored.

“We have coordinated with schools and regions where they will possibly transfer,” DOH Calabarzon Regional Director Eduardo Janairo in an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Janairo said they will continuously monitor children who were vaccinated with the anti-dengue vaccine within the region. Calabarzon consists of provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.

“Once our deployed DSO (Department Surveillance Officer) were informed that there are Dengvaxia vaccinees that will transfer, they will call the region where they will be transferring. We will provide the name of the vacciness, address and contact number,”Janairo said.

The health official said it is also important that the parents will do their part and to notify health workers and the school officials in advance of any plan to relocate to another region.

“This is where we need the cooperation of the parents of Dengvaxia vaccinees because they will be the one that should report to us of their intention to transfer residence,” Janairo added.

There were a total of 171,276 vaccinees in the region who received the first dose, 141,075 have taken the second dose while 82,815 completed the three doses.

Monitoring of the children is part of the efforts of the agency in ensuring that they are providing the care to the children who were vaccinated with the vaccine given in March 2016.

The immunization program was stopped by current Health chief Francisco Duque III last December 1, 2017 after Sanofi Pasteur, manufacturer of the vaccine released a report that Dengvaxia can cause severe dengue among those who have no prior dengue exposure. (Leilani Junio/PNA)
