DOLE gives P6-M for Iloilo, Guimaras projects

ILOILO CITY — Some six livelihood projects from the towns of Iloilo and Guimaras received an assistance worth more than PHP6 million under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Integrated Livelihood Program.

The checks were awarded during the opening program of the Labor Day celebration held at the Mary Mart Mall here on Tuesday.

“This is our way of uplifting the condition of the livelihood of our fellowmen,” DOLE 6 (Western Visayas) Director Johnson Cañete said.

In Iloilo, the recipients will engage in hog fattening, cattle fattening/raising, and bamboo craft while for Guimaras, the beneficiaries intend to engage in Negosyo sa Kariton (NegoKart).

The recipients were parents of child laborers, senior citizens, youth, marginalized farmers, unemployed and self-employed but with no sufficient income, and ambulant vendors.

Barangay Alabidhan of the town of Bingawan was awarded PHP2.52 million; while barangays Buayahon, Cadagmayan, and Lacadon of Sta. Barbara town received PHP1.07 million, PHP1.22 million, and PHP844,470, respectively. Barangay Igkadyos in Leon received PHP671, 698.

Recipients from Barangay Sto. Rosario in Buenavista, Guimaras received a total of PHP400,000.

Cañete said the program is proposal-based and that upon passing the evaluation stage, DOLE provides the funds for the projects.

He said other agencies can also come in to develop their products. (Perla Lena/PNA)
