KIDAPAWAN CITY — A passenger van loaded with goods and school supplies plunged into a highway canal in President Roxas, North Cotabato, leaving three persons injured on Tuesday afternoon.
One of the victims was in critical condition and had to be rushed to a Davao City hospital for further medical attention, according to Chief Insp. Andres Sumugat Jr., police chief of Pres. Roxas town.
Sumugat said the van with plate number LDF-805 and driven by Marcel Ortega Suncad, 36, was heading to this city at 4 p.m. when its brakes exploded as it negotiated a downward section of the highway in Barangay Greenhills.
Injured were Suncad, Mary Jane Casol Lebita, 37; and Cornelio Lambos, 42. Due to her serious head and body injuries, Lebita was rushed to Davao City while Suncad and Lambos remained at the North Cotabato provincial hospital.
Supt. Bernard Tayong, speaking for the North Cotabato police, said the downhill portion of the highway in Barangay Greenhills is “accident-prone” even as he reminded drivers and motorists to take extra care while in the area. (PNA)
