DILG to hold federalism roadshow to raise public awareness

MANILA – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will be launching a federalism roadshow next month to intensify its information drive and increase public awareness about the proposed shift to federalism, its spokesperson announced on Friday.

In a press conference at Dusit Thani Manila in Makati City, DILG spokesperson Assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya said the Constitutional Committee tasked to review the 1987 Constitution will present its initial draft of the proposed federal charter to the people and conduct public consultations at the federalism roadshow.

Malaya said the roadshow creates a national conversation that gives people an opportunity to input into the work of the Consultative Committee.

“We are confident that as we go along this campaign the support for federalism in the country will rise,” Malaya said.

Malaya said the roadshow would also include trainings for people who wish to be speakers about the federal system of government.

“If you wish to learn about federalism, DILG will train you to speak about federalism so that you can in turn impart what you have learned,” he said.

Aside from the roadshow, he said the agency will also hold federalism assemblies to discuss the merits of federalism and increase public awareness about federalism. (PNA)
