Local execs, poll bets in Bulacan undergo drug tests

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Incumbent local officials and some candidates for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections voluntarily underwent drug tests Thursday to prove that they are not in illegal drug activities.

“The war being waged by the government against the menace of illegal drugs would succeed if barangay officials set the examples of being against it,” said Mayor Christian Natividad.

Led by  Natividad, Vice Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, city administrator Zaldy Mendoza,  Comelec officer Julio Nicanor Guinto;  Supt. Heryl Bruno, city police chief,  and some barangay and SK aspirants took the drug tests  at the Ameer Drug Testing Center in Barangay Catmon, in this city.

The activity aims to pursue transparency and accountability on city officials and those seeking barangay elective posts in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has released a list of  local officials and candidates running for the barangay elective positions involved in illegal drugs,  prompting Malolos officials to encourage candidates in Monday’s barangay and SK elections to undergo drug tests. (PNA)
