MANILA — The Commission on Elections has reminded all candidates for the May 14th Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls that campaigning is no longer allowed 24 hours before the scheduled elections.
The campaign period officially ended 12 midnight of Saturday, May 12.
Aside from halt of campaign activities, other prohibitions imposed by the Comelec, through Resolution No. 10246 and to be followed on May 13 or on the eve of the elections, include giving, accepting free transportation, food, drinks and things of value; and using the voter’s affidavit of another for the purpose of voting, whether or not the user actually succeeded in casting the ballot.
Election Barangay Affairs Department Director Teopisto Elnas, in a press conference held at the Comelec building in Manila, urged the public to prepare for the election day on Monday by knowing their precinct number and voting center where they will cast their votes.
He said the voters can contact the Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) in the area where they are registered or call the hotlines and ask about their precinct number and voting center.
“We will assist them. We will look in our database and we will advise them on their assigned precinct and voting center. It will be an advantage if they already know the areas where they will vote,” the poll body official said.
He said that on election day, voting will start at 7 a.m. and the cut-off time will be 3 p.m., “except when there are voters present within 30 meters in front of the polling place who have not yet cast their votes, in which case the voting shall continue but only to allow said voters to cast their votes without interruption,” as provided under Section 190 of the Omnibus Election Code.
