Magnitude 4.9-quake jolts Zamboanga Peninsula

ZAMBOANGA CITY — A 4.9-magnitude earthquake shook several parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula early Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Allan Rommel Labayog, Phivolcs-Zamboanga City science research analyst, said the epicenter of the earthquake, which struck at 6:12 a.m., was 46 kilometers north of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.

Labayog said the earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of nine kilometers.

Intensity 3 was felt in the municipalities Manukan, Liloy and Sindangan, all in Zamboanga del Norte.

Intensity 2 was felt in the towns of Jose Dalman, Leon Postigo, and Tampilisan also in the province of Zamboanga del Norte as well as in this city.

Intensity 1, meanwhile, was felt in Zamboanga City and Pagadian City.

Labayog said there was no reported damage and there are no expected aftershocks. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
