Bulacan elections generally peaceful

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Except for reports of slight commotions, the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Bulacan were generally peaceful.

Lawyer Mona Aldana Campos, provincial election supervisor of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bulacan, said 99 percent of the poll canvassing in the province was completed, and most of the winners were already proclaimed as of Tuesday morning.

Campos said they were only waiting for the canvassing board’s report from the City of San Jose del Monte and the canvassing will be finished within the day.

She also disclosed that she received reports that several SK candidates were overage.

“I don’t just have the exact figures right as the reports were submitted to their legal department,” she added.

Lt. Col. Arnel Cabugon, commander of the 48th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, confirmed to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that at about 10 p.m. Monday, a commotion was reported at the polling precincts of Minuyan High School in Norzagaray town.

“The commotions were pacified when the municipal mayor and chief of police of Norzagaray pacified the supporters of the losing barangay chairman candidate Edmar Tovillo,“ Cabugon said.

On the 37 reported election watch list areas in Bulacan, Cabugon noted that “security forces handled the situations effectively and efficiently.” (Manny Balbin/PNA)
