Malacañang welcomes report hailing PH’s gender equality efforts

MANILA — Malacañang on Monday welcomed the April 2018 report of the Mckinsey Global Institute (MGI) tagging the Philippines as the best performer in the region on gender equality in the workplace.

The report “The Power of Parity: Advancing Women’s Equality in Asia Pacific” cited the Philippines for performing best on women’s participation in professional and technical jobs, with a female-to-male ratio of 1.42, as well as in leadership positions, with a female-to-male ratio of 0.96.

“We welcome the April 2018 report on the McKinsey Global Institute entitled “The power of parity: Advancing women’s equality in Asia Pacific” na nagsasabi po na ang Pilipinas po ang pinakamagaling na (saying the Philippines is the top) performer in the region on gender equality in work,” Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Palace briefing.

Roque, meanwhile, said the Duterte administration has vowed to implement the Magna Carta of Women which states that women in the third level or managerial posts in government shall be incrementally increased to achieve a 50/50 gender balance.

“Now as this figures highlight the gains in the private sector, the Duterte administration will seek to do better in the public sector by implementing the Magna Carta of Women,” Roque said. (PNA)
