Power restoration in Visayas underway: NGCP

MANILA, July 13 — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has reported the successful energizing of the Ormoc-Kananga 230-kilovolt (kV) Line 2 at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday, saying it is now providing feedback power to the Energy Development Corp.’s Upper Mafia and Malitbog geothermal power plants in northern Leyte.

In an advisory issued Thursday, the NGCP further stated that re-testing of the 150-mega volt amperes (MVA) Transformer No. 6 at the Ormoc Substation has been completed while the damaged bushing is being replaced.

The company said its personnel are continuously trying to energize the damaged transformer while checking other transformers at the Ormoc Substation for leakage reactance.

They have also begun transferring the 150-MVA and 100-MVA transformers from the Compostela Substation in Cebu to the Ormoc Substation to replace the damaged transformers in the facility.

Reconfiguration of the Compostela-Daanbantayan-Tabango-Ormoc 230-kV line to be energized at 138-kV began at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Once the reconfiguration scheme is finalized, the NGCP can deliver available power from Cebu to Ormoc.

The NGCP is also assessing the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter transformer in Ormoc, and erecting an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) for the Ormoc-Isabel 138-kV line.

Meanwhile, the company said it is employing a parallel, simultaneous strategy of repair, replacement, and reconfiguration for its affected transmission equipment, and is pooling all its resources to restore, even partially, power transmission services by the July 31 deadline set by the Department of Energy, or earlier. | (NGCP PR)
