Gunmen kill police officer in Davao Oriental

DAVAO CITY–Motorcycle riding gunmen shot dead a police officer in Davao Oriental Monday evening.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, Police Regional Office-11 (PRO-11) spokesperson, identified the victim as PO3 Walter Canja, who was  assigned with the Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office.

Based on the report, Driz said Canja was driving a pick-up car around 7:00 p.m. on May 2 on his way home from the public market in poblacion area in Purok Trabahador Menzi in Barangay Dahican, Mati City, when he was attacked by the suspects.

Driz said the two suspects wearing bonnets overtook Canja’s  vehicle Canja and shot the police officer, hitting the latter in different parts of his body.

The suspects fled to unknown direction after the incident. The Mati City Police Station said it is conducting a thorough investigation to identify the suspects behind the killing. (Armando B. Fenequito Jr./PNA)
