2 suspects in killing of OFW in Batangas nabbed

MANILA — Police arrested two suspects tagged in the killing of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Batangas over the weekend.

In a report to Camp Crame, Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) Director, Chief Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, said the suspects, Janet Manalo Capalad and Roel Dinglasan Guico, were arrested in a follow-up operation last May 20.

Capalad and Guico were positively identified by witnesses as the masterminds in the killing of Danilo Henson Teruel.

Teruel, 57, married, native of Bacolod, together with his wife, had just arrived from Saudi Arabia when he was shot dead by an unidentified gunman outside their house in Barangay Pinagkawitan, Lipa City on Saturday.

The victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds on his head and was declared dead at the Villa Memorial Hospital.

A few days before the incident, Guico was seen talking to the gunman and on the day before the arrival of the victim with his wife, the witness again saw Guico talking to the gunman.

Police are now looking into love triangle as the motive behind the killing as they found out that Capalad, whom the victim married in Saudi Arabia, and Guico were reportedly lovers.

Guico, who was a friend of the victim, fetched the couple from the airport but went home ahead of them.

The two were subsequently charged with murder before the Lipa City Prosecutors Office.

The police have launched a mangunt of the gunman.

“We assure the public that PRO Calabarzon, under my watch, will do its best to give justice to those victims of crimes and lawlessness,” Eleazar said.

“Vital to the solution of a case like this is the account from witnesses. We could not do this alone. So, we are appealing to the public to support and help us in all our undertakings. Let’s make good use of the technology and gadgets available to us to help in our campaign against illegal drugs and all sorts of criminalities,” he added. (PNA)
