Police probing all angles into Cagayan priest’s slay: Palace

MANILA — Although police earlier said that the supposed “illicit affairs” of Catholic priest Mark Anthony Ventura are among the angles being looked into his killing last month, Malacañang on Tuesday said that cops are also looking into other angles.

Ventura, 37, was gunned down by a still unidentified suspect after celebrating mass in Gattaran, Cagayan last May 29.

“I’m sure ang kapulisan po lahat tinitingnan, pero nandoon din po iyong aspeto ng love angle (I’m sure our police are looking into all angles but there’s also the aspect of a love angle),” Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Palace briefing.

Roque made this remark after President Rodrigo R. Duterte, in a speech in Tabongon, Cebu on Sunday, bared a matrix of Ventura’s supposed illicit affairs with at least eight women.

Duterte did not name the priest but Roque confirmed that the President was indeed referring to Ventura.

“Yes, it was Father Ventura,” Roque said.

Roque earlier denounced Ventura’s murder and vowed to prosecute those responsible for his killing.

“We condemn all killings and I assure you that the government is taking steps to fulfill its responsibility to investigate, try and punish the killers,” he said. (PNA)
