PNP chief to prosecutors: ‘Report threats to us’

MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Wednesday urged state prosecutors who face threats to their safety to coordinate with the police for arrangements for their security.

“It’s very important not only for our prosecutors if they feel that their life is threatened. Kailangan sabihin nila sa atin (They should tell us about it). Probably, we can assist them or we can provide them security detail or they can hire private security,” Albayalde told reporters.

The PNP chief said those who would pass their threat assessment and relevant tests may opt to purchase firearms and may apply for permits to carry these outside of residence if warranted by the situation, pursuant to Republic Act 10591 known as Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act.

Albayalde said they are still awaiting a final report on the killing of Geronimo S. Marabe,Jr., a former public prosecutor who was shot dead by four unidentified assailants in Ozamis City Tuesday.

Marabe had served as a public prosecutor for several cases involving the Parojinogs drug cartel in Ozamis.

Earlier this month, Quezon City Deputy Prosecutor Rogelio Velasco was shot deads while in his car with his children. (PNA)
