BAGUIO CITY— The city division of the Department of Education (DepEd) is ready for the conduct of the five-day 2018 “Brigada Eskwela” to guarantee that all the schools are ready for the opening of classes a week later.
This year’s “Brigada Eskwela” will be held from May 28 to June 1.
City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Federico Martin on Friday said that the Brigada Eskwela has been institutionalized so that students and their parents will not spend much time cleaning and doing minor repairs for the classrooms.
This is also to avoid unnecessary delays during the first day of classes since students will be instructed to report directly to their respective classrooms.
He also said that a budget of PHP100,000 will be allotted for the brigada kick-off.
He added that the city government has allocated PHP20,000 for each of the 44 elementary and 22 secondary schools under the division.
The city government’s cash assistance is an annual support to the public schools in Baguio.
Martin said that major repairs in public schools which cannot be accommodated by the allotted amount and the donations from partner stakeholders, the school officials are advised to come up with a resolution addressed to school boards, so that such can be requested to the higher office.
In Line with Republic Act (RA) No. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 and the Implementation of the K to 12 Education Program, teachers have undergone the mandatory training on Critical Content across Learning Areas, particularly on the following subjects: English, Music and Arts, Filipino, Mathematics and Science.
He said the teachers’ training started on May 18 and will end on June 2.
“Teachers already undertook the required trainings offered by the education department to improve their skills in teaching their specialty subjects,” Martin said.
In relation to peace and order preparations being done by the Baguio City Police Office, SPO1 Angeline Hombrebueno of the Police Community Relations Office said that the operation plan for “Oplan Balik Eskwela” is already in place.
“We would like to assure you that your police will be giving its full support and assistance for this event. We will not only be there to provide security but also for traffic management to see to it that there will be a smooth flow of vehicles especially in areas where the schools are located,” she said.
