P14.9-M worth of marijuana destroyed in Kalinga

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet- Some Php 14.9 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants were destroyed in a three-day (May 25 to 27) anti-illegal drug operations in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

The massive operation was conducted by combined police operatives of Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) and drug agents of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Cordillera.

In a report to Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, PROCOR director, on Monday, Senior Supt. David Peredo, Officer-in-charge of Kalinga Provincial Police, also the concurrent commander of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), said joint police and PDEA operatives swooped down on several marijuana plantations in Barangays Buscalan and Loccong, all in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

Peredo said, on May 25, authorities destroyed some 41,100 fully grown marijuana plants worth more than Php 9 million in the illegal drug plantation in the said barangays.

Two days after (May 27), in a follow-up operation on the same barangays , 33,860 more fully grown marijuana plants worth about Php 5.97 million were burned on site.

No suspects were arrested during the marijuana eradication drives.

Meanwhile, two drug suspects identified as Norenio Laguiwey Pokit, alias “Labenyo,” and Raul Guillao Olsim, were arrested on May 25 in a separate anti drug operations in the different parts of the province.

Pokit was arrested in his resident at Bacudongan, Baculongan Norte, Buguias this province. Seized from him were some marijuana sticks, nine sachet containing suspected shabu ; a Caliber .22 homemade firearm and assorted drug paraphernalia.
