QC court fines 2 ex-village execs for failure to render accounts

MANILA — Two former village officials in Quezon City have been fined for their failure to account for more than PHP1 million in 2007.

Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) Branch 43 Presiding Judge Don Ace Mariano Alagar found former Barangay Sikatuna Village Barangay Chairman Filemon San Antonio and Barangay Treasurer Alma Rigor guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violation of Article 218, or for “failure of accountable officer to render accounts”, of the Revised Penal Code.

According to its records, the Quezon City court also ordered both of the accused to pay a fine of PHP1,000 each.

During their re-arraignment, the two, assisted by counsel, were informed of the nature and cause of the accusation against them and manifested their intention to change their plea from “not guilty” to “guilty”.

Probe showed that in 2007, San Antonio and Rigor failed to submit various supporting documents for the disbursement of funds amounting to PHP1,158,752.38 within a period of two months after such accounts should have been rendered. (PNA)
