4 cities receive e-trikes from DOE

MANILA — Four cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) received electric tricycles or e-trikes from the Department of Energy (DOE) on Friday.

Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Pateros, and Valenzuela received a total of 900 e-trikes, costing around USD10,000 or PHP518,308 each, as part of the DOE’s E-Trike project.

At the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the DOE and the four cities, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi explained that the E-Trike project aims to promote the transition from oil to cleaner energy and better efficiency.

“Many communities will benefit from this project, and will also help provide livelihood for the people,” he remarked.

Under the agreement, Las Piñas will be provided with 100 units, Muntinlupa with 150, Valenzuela with 250, and Pateros with 400.

The DOE noted that the local government units (LGUs) were required to submit proposals for the use of the e-trikes. They should also comply with documentary requirements, among others.

The agency has been promoting the modernization of the transport sector, suggesting the use of alternative vehicles and energy-efficient technologies.

Through its “E-Power Mo” campaign, the DOE pushes for an efficient and environment-friendly mode of transportation just like the e-trike.

In January, the DOE donated e-trikes to Marawi. The agency said the first 10 of the 200 e-trikes will arrive on Sunday in Cagayan De Oro. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
