2 riding-in-tandem robbers killed in Pasig shootout

MANILA — Two robbers riding tandem in a motorcycle were killed in an encounter with responding policemen in Pasig City Tuesday night.

A spot report released Wednesday said that Rodel De Jesus was victimized by the still unidentified suspects along Mabini St. in Barangay Kapasigan.

A suspect backriding in the motorcycle, pulled out a handgun and took the victim’s bag containing cellular phone and PHP2,000 cash before fleeing.

The victim, however, was able to immediately seek assistance from a passing motorist who, in turn, relayed the incident to a police station.

Shortly after the incident, elements of a local police precinct (PCP 4) who are conducting Oplan Sita along F. Legaspi St., in Barangay Maybunga spotted the suspects based on the description given by the police station radio operator.

When flagged down, the motorcycle riding suspects pulled out their handguns and fired upon the police officers and sped off.

PO2 Cleo Rey and PO1 Jhoemar Tabat chased the suspects who were cornered at Jenny’s Avenue which led to a shootout, hitting the two suspects. Two cohorts, also riding in another motorcycle, managed to escape towards an unknown direction.

The two suspects, who sustained gunshot wounds, were rushed by policemen to the Pasig City General Hospital but were declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Marion Falcontin.

Police recovered a 9-mm Black Widow revolver without serial number loaded with two fired cartridge cases and three live bullets, one .38-caliber Armscor revolver with serial number 51578 loaded with four fired cartridge cases, seven fired cartridge cases from unknown caliber, two pieces of plastic sachet with suspected shabu, and a Motorstar motorcycle with no plate number.(Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
