COTABATO CITY–Authorities are investigating the identifies of two gunmen who shot and killed a former public school principal while onboard his vehicle together with his wife at the main gate of the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) here on Tuesday night.

Sr. Insp. Ruel Zafra, speaking for the Cotabato City police office, identified the slain victim as Ferdausi Uko, 59, former principal of the Kabuntalan Elementary School in Maguindanao, who died from multiple gunshot wounds. Uko’s wife, identified as Sahara, 44, sustained a gunshot wound at her left thigh.

Zafra said the couple was onboard their white car ((LCY-959) about to visit a relative confined at the CRMC around 8:20 p.m. when fired upon by a riding-in-tandem as they approach the gate.

The attackers sped off after the incident. Security guards checking on other vehicles entering the CRMC gate said they were themselves surprised by the attack and immediately brought the victims to the hospital’s emergency section.

“The male Uko died around 10:30 p.m. while undergoing treatment,” Zafra said. Zafra noted that Uko’s wife is currently being secured at another hospital to shed light on the matter. He said police investigators have initially pointed to personal grudge as the motive behind the attack. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
