1.29K jobseekers join Independence Day fair in Luneta

MANILA — Despite the continuous rains, more than 1,200 applicants registered for the 2018 Independence Day job and business fair at the Luneta Park here, the Department of Labor and Employment said on Tuesday.

The report, as of 1 p.m., indicated that a total of 1,291 jobseekers have registered at the fair, 789 of whom were men and 502 were women.

A total of 43 males and 43 females were hired on the spot for local jobs.

One of them, Christina Malvas, 20, from Quezon City, was hired as a promo specialist.

Malvas, a mother to a two-year-old child, said it was her first time to apply in a job fair and luckily, she was hired.

“I need a job for my baby. I’m happy I was hired,” she said.

The data showed that 273 applicants were qualified – 146 men and 125 women for local employment – and two women for overseas jobs.

A total of 73 employers participated in the Metro Manila event, 55 of them offering jobs in the country and 18 were employing workers for abroad.

Some 20 other job and business fairs were simultaneously held across the country in commemoration of the country’s 120th Independence Day. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
