2 Chinese men nabbed for detaining compatriot

MANILA — Two Chinese nationals were arrested by the Parañaque police early Thursday for detaining another Chinese man in a hotel room.

In a spot report, the Parañaque Police said they are now readying charges against suspects Tao Xiong, 31, and Yifei Liao, 28, both male.

Both suspects were billeted at the Solaire Resort and Casino located on 1 Aseana Ave., Entertainment City, Tambo, Parañaque City.

Local police said the arrest of the two Chinese nationals stemmed from a call from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) seeking assistance for the victim, businessman Chou Yin-Chin, 37.

Responding policemen conducted the rescue operation at Room 1612 of the hotel’s Sky Tower wing at 5 a.m.

Chou arrived in the country as a tourist on Monday and was arbitrarily detained by the suspects, apparently for an outstanding loan worth PHP300,000 incurred from gambling losses.

The suspects supposedly demanded for the relatives of the victim in Taipei to pay Chou’s loan in exchange for his release.

This prompted the victim’s relatives to seek the help of the TECO.

Two other suspects remained at large. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
