Remains of OFW fatally mauled in Slovakia set to arrive in PH Tuesday

MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday evening announced that the remains of Henry John Acorda, the Filipino fatally mauled in Slovakia, will arrive on Tuesday.

Acorda, a 36-year old financial analyst in Slovakia, died last month when he was attacked by a local for protecting a Filipina companion from harassment. The suspect is now in jail for manslaughter charges.

The agency, through Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato, said the remains of Acorda will be repatriated from Bratislava on Monday on board a Slovak government aircraft that is expected to arrive in Manila on Tuesday, 11 a.m.

Acorda’s death has enraged Slovaks with no less than Prime Minister Peter Pelligrini condemning the incident and assuring that justice will be served.

Ambassador to Vienna Ma. Cleofe Natividad is expected to accompany the remains and the mother and two siblings of Acorda. (Joyce Ann L. Rocamora/PNA)
