PNP ends ‘turf war’ with NBI, vows collaboration in high profile cases

MANILA — Police investigators will be working more closely with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in high-profile cases in a bid to end the decades-long professional rivalry between the two law enforcement agencies, PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said Monday.

“I just came from the National Bureau of Investigation as a guest in their Monday flag-raising ceremony and discussed an opportunity for PNP and NBI to further strengthen our fields of cooperation and coordination (in the) flagship campaign against organized crime and illegal drugs,” Albayalde said in a press briefing.

“Gone are the days when there was professional jealousy. If they (NBI) get additional evidence (on pending cases), they will share it with us,” the PNP chief added.

Albayalde said the cooperation between the PNP and NBI will help in upholding peace and justice in the country.

Maganda yung dalawang agency ang gumagalaw para mawala din yung pagduda ng ating mga kababayan (Two agencies working together will help erase doubts in the mind of the public). We all want justice, iisa ang goal natin dito (We only have one goal here),” he added.

Albayalde added that aside from the case of murdered Nueva Ecija priest Richmond Nilo, Albayalde said they are encouraging parallel investigation by the NBI on the case of former La Union Rep. Eufranio Eriguel who was gunned down last May 12.

Last week, the PNP said fugitive Ricardo “Ardot” Parojinog has been sending feelers to have the cases filed against him handled by the NBI instead of the PNP.

Ardot was detained by Taiwanese police, who had been asked by their Filipino counterparts to extradite him to face charges here. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
