Building materials inflation in NCR remains at 2.6%

MANILA — The increase in retail prices of construction materials in Metro Manila remained at 2.6 percent in May 2018, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Tuesday.

The PSA stated that the construction materials retail price index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) posted an annual growth of 1 percent in May 2017.

Higher annual increments were registered in the indices of carpentry materials at 3.8 percent and painting materials and related compounds at 1.6 percent.

A slower annual gain of 1.3 percent was noted in tinsmithry materials index.

Annual movements in the indices of electrical materials remained at 1.3 percent; masonry materials at 3.1 percent; plumbing materials at 1.4 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials at 8.1 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, the CMRPI in NCR rose at a slower pace of 0.1 percent in May 2018 from 0.3 percent the previous month.

The PSA said the increase in carpentry materials index slowed down to 0.2 percent, while that for painting materials and related compounds index remained at its previous month’s 0.1 percent, Cement was priced lower during the month.

Upward price adjustments were observed in plywood, “lawanit”, common wire nails, electrical wires, PVC pipe, hollow blocks, paints, corrugated G.I. sheets and steel bars.

Other commodity groups posted zero growth during the month.

Meanwhile, the market basket for RPI of selected construction materials is composed of 102 commodities.
