PBA okays Ginebra, Globalport swap

MANILA — Ginebra is not yet done with the shock trades.

On Tuesday, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Willie Marcial approved a one-on-one swap involving the Barangay and the GlobalPort Batang Pier.

Ginebra took the services of Julian Sargent in exchange for Paolo Taha.

Originally a second round pick of Magnolia in last year’s draft but was among those traded to GlobalPort for Robbie Herndon, Sargent found himself in the latter’s starting lineup quickly.

While being more of a lockdown defender, Sargent only posted 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game so far this season.

On the other hand, Taha will find himself back with the team that drafted him in 2014 after only getting limited playing time for a deep Ginebra guard rotation.

Interestingly, the trade was approved one night before they swing to action against separate opponents at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Batang Pier will take on the Phoenix Fuel Masters, who on Monday struck a separate deal with the Barangay leading to Jeff Chan joining the latter, in the first game at 4:30 p.m.

Ginebra, on the other hand, will debut Chan in the main game against Columbian at 7 p.m. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
