DAVAO CITY–The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation in Davao City has voiced support to the implementation of the Davao City Police’s ‘Oplan Sita’ to rid the streets of “tambays” or idlers.

During Wednesday’s AFP-PNP Press Corps media briefing, SK Federation Davao City Public Relations Officer Paolo Dominic Rodriguez said the operation will help the youth not to engage in any illegal activity.

Rodriguez admitted that most of the ‘tambays’ on the streets are young people aged 15 to 30 years old. This activity may result in their involvement in illegal and disturbing activities such as riots.

Oplan Sita is being implemented by the city police to thwart criminal activities, especially at night.

Rodriguez said the youth federation will also reinforce the campaign of DCPO by monitoring all the youth in the barangays in the city through their SK chairs.

“Among pangitaon katong kabatan-onan nga sigeg tambay ilabi na sa mga kanto, amo gyud silang istoryahon in a good manner (We will look for these young tambay and we will talk to them in a good manner),” he said.

Rodriguez said the SK will inform these people on some ordinances in the city that prohibit them from staying on the streets, such as the Sobriety Ordinance.

He added that the federation will also ask all SK chairs from the 182 barangays in the city to list down those who are involved in illegal drugs.

Rodriguez bared that the SK will still employ sports, which he said was an old but tested way to divert the young people’s attention away from drugs and other destructive vices.

DCPO spokesperson Senior Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan said the city police will implement the ordinances in the city such as the Sobriety Ordinance and Curfew on Minors in their ‘Oplan Sita’ operations. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
