CEBU CITY — The new Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 will be open for public viewing on June 27-28.

“Everyone from the public is welcome to view what’s inside the terminal starting tomorrow (Wednesday) from 9 a.m. to 5 in the afternoon,” said Avigael Maningo, GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp.’s corporate communications junior manager, as she gave members of the Cebu media a tour of the new terminal on Tuesday.

The MCIA Terminal 2, featuring its most attractive glulam (glued-laminated) roof made up of an array of glulam timber wood arches from Austria, will be fully operational on July 1.

Cebuanos interested to tour the MCIA Terminal 2 during the viewing days only need to visit the MCIA Facebook page for pre-registration and to schedule the date and time of their tour.

Guests should bring any government-issued ID, current school ID, or police clearance for security purposes during the tour.

Maningo said minors are also welcome, so long as they are accompanied by their guardians.

The world-class MCIA Terminal 2 was designed by Hong Kong-based architectural firm, Integrated Design Associates, Ltd.

Its structural design was inspired by the natural landscape of the Philippines, the locality of Cebu, and the warmth and hospitality of its people.

The 65,500-square-meter terminal, which is intended to serve all international flights to and from Cebu, has the capacity to accommodate 4.5 million passengers.

It has separate departure and arrival areas. The departure area has four check-in halls with 48 counters and has seven passenger boarding bridges, which can be expanded to 12. (Luel Galarpe with Bebie Jane Casipong/PNA)
