CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — The remains of the 31-year-old police chief of Mallig, Isabela, who was killed in a drug buy-bust operation, were laid to rest at the Ilagan Memorial Park in Osmeña village here before noon Tuesday.
Senior Insp. Michael Angelo Tubaña, who was posthumously promoted to chief inspector, was given a 21-gun salute by his colleagues in the police service, while relatives and friends released white balloons after his casket was lowered to the ground.
The Philippine flag, which was draped on the slain police chief’s coffin, was folded and given to his widow, Joanna Marie, and their two daughters.
Tubaña’s parents, Josue and Loida, shed tears as they recalled their son’s hard work to finish his Nursing course and eventually, his training to become a police officer at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), where he graduated in 2011.
Senior Insp. Richard Gatan, who, like Tubaña, was a PNPA graduate, recalled Michael as “shy” and a “kind” police officer.
The town police chief was shot dead in a drug buy-bust operation in Mallig last June 17. His alleged killers, Warren Bulauit and a 17-year-old cohort, had been indicted for murder. Bulauit’s drug and paraffin tests yielded positive results. (Bill Visaya/PNA)
