QC to acquire land for socialized housing expansion

MANILA — The Quezon City Council on Thursday authorized Mayor Herbert Bautista to acquire, through negotiated sale, parcels of land in Novaliches for the expansion and development of Bistekville 12 and 28, sites of the city’s socialized housing project.

City Resolutions 7387-2018 and 7391-2018 state that “the Task Force on Socialized Housing and Development of Blighted Areas (TF Housing) wants to expand the city’s socialized housing project to provide significant opportunities to a greater number of Quezon City informal settlers/residents to own in-city affordable and decent housing.”

The resolutions were introduced by Councilor Godofredo Liban II.

The 5,100 and 2,000-square-meter lots, which are located in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon and owned by Aurora Ignacio and Generoso Jacinto respectively, are identified as suitable for development and expansion of housing development as these are vacant, relatively flat and adjoins Bistekville 12 and 28.

After a series of meetings with TF Housing, Ignacio and Jacinto have expressed their willingness to sell their properties to the Quezon City government through negotiated sale.

“Pursuant to Section 455 (b)(1)(vi) of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the ‘Local Government Code of 1991’, the City Mayor shall represent the City in all its business transactions and sign in its behalf all bonds, contracts and obligations, and such other documents upon the authority of the Sangguniang Panglungsod or pursuant to law or ordinance,” the resolutions said. (Perfecto Raymundo, Jr./PNA)
