MATI, Davao Oriental–The Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) is drawing more members as Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio accepted at least 1,830 village leaders of Davao Oriental province on Sunday.

During the mass oath-taking at the Davao Oriental State University Gymnasium here, Duterte-Carpio urged them to aim for projects that will alleviate poverty and have strong impact in people’s lives.

Duterte-Carpio, who is the founding chairperson of the HNP, said this can be done through careful planning of their programs and projects during their term.

“What we want is a strong Davao region. Atong pakusgon ang atong rehiyon pinaagi sa mga proyekto nga maka alibyo sa kalisod sa atong mga constituents and strong impact in their lives (What we want is a strong region. Let us make our region strong by initiating projects that will alleviate poverty of our constituents and strong impact in their lives),” she said.

The mayor stressed the importance of good planning as the foundation of tangible development, which she said will decide whether a village official should stay in their office in the next elections.

Also present during the mass oath-taking were the Governors Nelson Dayanghirang of Davao Oriental and Tyron Uy of Compostela Valley, Senator Cynthia Villar, Representatives Corazon Malanyaon of the first district of Davao Oriental and Zahid Mangundadato of the second district of Maguindanao, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos and the local officials of the province.

Mayor Sara said she has already submitted the petition for registration of HNP as a regional political party at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Intramuros, Manila last June 5.

HNP is a newly-formed regional political party led by Duterte-Carpio and the four governors of Davao provinces. Carpio-Duterte said HNP was created to position the Davao Region as a development hub in the country. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
