Nueva Ecija town mayor killed in ambush

CABANATUAN, Nueva Ecija — An incumbent municipal mayor in this province was killed in an ambush by unidentified motorcycle-riding men along Maharlika Highway here around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mayor Ferdinand Bote, a first term mayor of the southern town of General Tinio, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

He was rushed by his driver to the MV Gallego Hospital, just across the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Office where he came from, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

It was not yet clear what his business at NIA was but Bote was a known contractor.

A source from the hospital said there were several entry wounds but the one on the right cheek was fatal.

The driver was also hit but his wound was superficial. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
