GENERAL SANTOS CITY–Muslim learners and language enthusiasts here and the neighboring areas may now learn Arabic using their smartphones.
This was made possible after a group of local 2D or two dimensional animators developed a new mobile application dubbed Ta’allam, which features interactive learning of the Arabic language.
Maya Cartojano, ACLC GenSan president, said Tuesday the innovative mobile application was developed by their team of animators who were once scholars of the city government, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Department of Trade and Industry.
Cartojano said they were commissioned to create the application to enhance the learning of the Arabic language of students in Madrasas or Islamic schools here and nearby Sarangani.
The project is a collaboration of the local governments of this city and Sarangani Province, Smart Communications, Department of Education, ACLC College of Gensan, Skeptron Business Solutions, Mercy Foundation and Young Moro Professionals Council.
Cartojano hopes that the innovation will become a tool to facilitate peace and harmony among Muslims and non-Muslims in Mindanao.
“The more our youth understand Arabic and Muslim prayers, the more they can work together, cooperate and do business in Mindanao,” she said in statement.
Ta’allam, which was launched last week, will be rolled out in local Madrasas starting this month.
City Councilor Rosalita Nuñez, chair of the council’s committee on education, lauded the creation of the mobile application saying it make learning easier and more interesting for students.
She said project implementers made the right choice in tapping current trends and innovations developed to aid the teaching and learning process for students.
Michelle Solon, an advocate of Sarangani’s Sulong Karunungan program, said the mobile application will be “a bridge for our Filipino Muslim students who want to learn Arabic.”
“It’s making the Madrasa more convenient. Even a non-Muslim can learn from this app,” she said. (PNA)
