ZAMBOANGA CITY–Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said she will continue performing her duties despite the threats on her life.

Salazar’s statement came after two town mayors were separately gunned down in the Luzon area.

Mayor Antonio Halili of Tanauan City, Batangas was gunned down on Monday during the flag ceremony at City Hall.

A day after, Mayor Ferdinand Bote of General Trio, Nueva Ecija, was also killed in a drive-by shooting while aboard his service vehicle.

Salazar said the threat will not prevent her from visiting her constituents in the barangays.

The mayor frequently visits the barangays for the local government’s outreach program, dubbed as the “Dia del Alcalde (Mayor’s Day),” which usually falls on the feast day of a particular village.

“We should be very cautious,” Salazar added, as she disclosed receiving death threats in recent days through the social media.

She said one of the threats read: “Yang mayor ninyo dapat pugutan ng ulo” (We will behead your mayor).

Salazar said that she is no stranger to threats as her uncle, the legendary Mayor Cesar Climaco, died in the line of public service.

Climaco was felled by an assassin’s bullet while inspecting a fire scene along Gov. Alvarez Avenue here on on November 14, 1984. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
