No report of counterfeit P10K bill in Visayas: BSP

BACOLOD CITY — No fake 10,000-peso bill has been reported in the Visayas, said an official of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Director Leonides Sumbi of the BSP’s regional office in Cebu, who was here Thursday for the launch of the Knowledge Resource Network (KRN), said none of the BSP branches in the Visayas has been notified or has received any complaint regarding the circulation of counterfeit PHP10,000 banknotes.

“The said PHP10,000 bill is surely counterfeit money. We only have six banknotes and the highest is PHP1,000,” she said, the others being PHP500, PHP200, PHP100, PHP50, and PHP20 bills.

In the past days, photos of the supposed PHP10,000 New Generation Currency banknote, which looks similar to the PHP1,000 bill, had been circulating on social media.

She, however, admitted that fake bills in other denominations had been reported, particularly in Cebu, where business is brisk.

To determine the authenticity of the banknote, Sumbi said all one has to do is to touch the “Republika ng Pilipinas” label, which is rough. (Erwin Nicavera/PNA)
