1-2 finish for PH in girls’ 50-meter butterfly

LOS BAÑOS — The Philippines took the top two spots in the girls’ 16-18 50-meter butterfly race in the Southeast Asia Age Group Swimming Championships at the Trace Aquatic Center here Saturday.

Miranda Renner won the gold medal after clocking in at 28.23 seconds.

Regina Castrillo, on the other hand, captured the silver at 28.36 seconds to cap the 1-2 finish.

Adinda Dewi of Indonesia took the bronze medal after finishing the course in 28.48 seconds.

Meanwhile, Rafael Barreto took another silver in the boys’ 16-18 race, finishing second to Jeremie Nino of Vietnam with a time of 25.54 seconds.

Nino came close to matching the event record in the race, clocking in at 25.13 seconds, just 0.03 second slower than the 25.1-second finish by Thailand’s Supakrit Pananuratana set in 2014.

On the other hand, the Philippines got another bronze in the 4×100-meter medley relay. (PNA)
