DOLE temporarily stops ongoing construction of skyway extension project

MANILA, July 19 — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued a work stoppage order against the contractor of the Skyway extension project in connection with the collapse of steel braces injuring five workers on Tuesday.

According to DOLE National Capital Region (NCR) Director Henry John Jalbuena, the order has temporarily stopped the on-going construction of the elevated road project.

He clarified that the order only covers the accident-affected area of the project.

Jalbuena added that the contractor has been directed to submit their construction safety and health program.

“The work stoppage order will be lifted only after they have submitted their occupational and health plan and able to ensure the safety of their workers,” the DOLE official said.

Likewise, the contractor was directed to attend a hearing to discuss the accident.
