Koronadal’s P150-M transport terminal opens next month

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The city government of Koronadal is targeting the opening by next month of its PHP150-million integrated transport terminal complex.

Marloun Gumbao, Koronadal City treasurer, said Monday they have scheduled the soft opening of the facility, which is touted as among the biggest and most modern in Mindanao, on August 8.

He said the main terminal structures are already finished and the remaining works are expected to be fully completed before its opening.

“I recently visited the site and I can say that it’s something that the city can really be proud of,” he said in an interview over radio station dxKR.

Gumbao said they will initially utilize the existing ordinance governing local terminals for its operations, including provisions concerning the charges and fees.

But he said they will eventually adopt new policies and regulations for the terminal’s operations and management, through a pending ordinance before the Sangguniang Panlungsod (city council).

He said they expect its passage to take some time due to the scheduled consultations with local stakeholders.

With the opening of the new transport terminal, Gumbao said the local government will require all private terminals to close down and transfer their operations at the facility within the year. (PNA)
