Duterte extends financial aid to slain cop’s widow in Nueva Ecija

GEN. TINIO, Nueva Ecija—President Rodrigo Duterte extended a PHP100,000 financial support to the wife of a young police officer who was killed in an anti-drug operation in Barangay Pias here around 9:45 p.m. Monday.

Senior Inspector Adriano Gabriel, town police chief, handed the amount to Lyka Camil, 17, wife of PO1 Mariano Emmanuel Caparas on Tuesday afternoon.

The policeman was part of the team that conducted a buy bust operation against Albert Gutierrez, resident of Barangay Pias, who died on the spot when back up troops retaliated.

Camil, who is six months pregnant with her first child, thanked President Duterte for the grant.

This, she said, manifested the Chief Executive’s sincerity in supporting the law enforcers in the war against crimes.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako kay President (I would like to thank the President),” Camil said, as she admitted she was having a hard time accepting her husband’s fate.

The two got married only last December 14.

The slain 27-year-old policeman did not have  a chance to know the gender of their baby.

“Gusto nya ay babae para daw malambing (He wanted a girl for being affectionate),” Camil said. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
