Man nabbed for illegal use of military uniform during SONA

MANILA — Police authorities arrested a man clad in army regalia along Commonwealth Ave. on Monday.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director, Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr., said the suspect Daniel Magtira, 57, a resident of No. 1035 New Antipolo St., Barangay 213, Zone 20, Tondo, Manila, was apprehended by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) at about 9 a.m. Monday.

Magtira faces charges for unlawful wearing of uniform of the Philippine Army publicly, when he was accosted along Commonwealth Ave. corner Zuzuarregui St., Barangay Old Balara by policemen conducting security preparations in the area for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte.

He was also carrying two hand bags with markings “CPP-NPA”, prompting the operatives to confront the suspect, who failed to present proof of being connected to the Philippine Army.

Magtira was brought to the CIDU in Camp Karingal for further investigation and will be charged with violation of Republic Act No. 493 or Illegal Use of Uniforms and Insignia. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
