Gov’t allots P278 M for Team Philippines in 2017 SEAG

MANILA, July 21 — The government, through the Philipines Sports Commission (PSC), has allotted a total of PHP278.69 million for ‘Team Philippines’ participation in the 29th edition of the Southeast Asian(SEA) Games, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, starting Aug. 19.

The Philippine delegation is composed of 773 including 498 athletes.

“The government is all out support to our national athletes participation in the biennial meet,and we expect them to do their best,” lawyer Carlo Abarquez, executive director of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) told sports writers in a press conference on Friday.

Topping the amount was spent in foreign exposure that include training and various international competitions by the different National Sports Associations (NSAs), which amounted to PHP192 million, covering the period from January to June (2017).

The government’s financial support include : sports equipment and supplies worth PHP63 million; accommodation PHP29 million; air fare PHP7.7 mllion; and other logistical support estimated at PHP25 million.

The PSC senior official also said that each athlete would be given USD500 as allowance in the meet. (Primo P. Agatep/PNA)
