President Duterte confers Order of Lapu-Lapu to injured soldiers

JOLO, SULU — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Friday, July 27, recognized the bravery of seven soldiers who were wounded following their separate encounters against the members of the Abu Sayyaf Group.

After distributing relief assistance to fire victims, the Commander-in-Chief proceeded to Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital to visit the injured military officers.

The soldiers from the Philippine Army and Philippine Marines were injured during separate encounters against the members of the Abu Sayyaf Group last July 11 and 21 in Talipao and Patikul towns.

The Chief Executive personally awarded Cpl. Dixon Aplahal, Cpl. Larkin Lumacad, Cpl. Binjakar Ajak, Cpl. Bernardo Cortiz, Pfc. Reynard Baynos, Pfc. John Jusay, and Pvt. Brix Cojo the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Kampilan Medals.

The Kampilan Medal is awarded to officials and personnel of the government and private individuals who were seriously wounded or injured or suffered great loss of property as a direct result of their participation in an activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.

The military officers likewise received financial aid from the President.

Among the officials who accompanied the President during his visit here were Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Interior and Local Government Officer-in-Charge Eduardo Año, and Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go. (PND)
