Antique releases salaries of 165 student-workers

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao led the release of salaries for 165 beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) at her office at the Provincial Capitol here Tuesday.

Myra Pe, Antique Public Employment Service Officer who assisted the governor in releasing the salaries, said the beneficiaries were provided employment for 22 days by the provincial government through the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) SPES program.

“The beneficiaries received PHP235 per day for their work,” Pe said.

Through the SPES, the beneficiaries last summer had the chance to work in various offices at the provincial government. Their earnings could help them in their studies during the school year.

Melisa S. Navarra, provincial director of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) office in Antique, in a previous interview, said there were 1,399 total beneficiaries of the SPES last summer.

Navarra also said that DOLE-Antique has an allocation of about PHP5 million for this year’s SPES program.

Under the program, DOLE shoulders 40 percent of their salary while the remaining 60 percent comes from the partner local government unit or business establishment. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
