Region 12 cops told to shun illegal activities

GENERAL SANTOS CITY–The leadership of Police Regional Office (PRO)-12 has warned anew its personnel against engaging in illegal activities or face stern consequences.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, Region 12 police director, issued the warning Thursday in the wake of the reported involvement of at least four policemen assigned in Taguig City in alleged kidnap-for-ransom activities.

Morales directed all police officers and personnel in Region 12 to stay away from any illegal activity that will put the image of the Philippine National Police (PNP) “in a bad light.”

The police official acknowledged that there are still rogue cops within their ranks and stressed that they should be weeded out.

“But there are only few of them and don’t reflect the actual image of our organization,” he added.

Along with their continuing operations against criminality and illegal drugs, Morales assured that they have also intensified the cleansing of their ranks.

Early this year, the PRO-12 dismissed three policemen for testing  positive for drug use during a series of surprise mandatory drug tests.

A number of policemen were also subjected to disciplinary proceedings due to various violations such as indiscriminate firing, carrying of illegal firearms, gun toting and public disturbance while under the influence of alcohol.

“We will continue with our internal cleansing and discipline the misfits and rogues in our ranks,” he said, adding the campaign against rogue policemen was necessary to gain the trust of the people.

The official added that their engagements with local communities have already been gaining ground as shown by the increasing support in their campaign against illegal drugs and other criminal acts. (Alejandro Saludo/PNA)
