3 die, 1 survives as Pa stabs own children

DAVAO CITY — Three children were stabbed dead by their own father inside the family’s home in Purok 1, Barangay San Isidro, Babak District, Island Garden City of Samal at about 11 p.m. on Thursday.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 11 (Davao), identified the victims as RJ Nonoy, 13; Cyrus, 11; Aira Nicole, 7; and Sophia, 4.

Driz said they were stabbed by their father Joel, 40, a carpenter, who also stabbed himself but survived, along with Sophia. Both are recuperating from their wounds.

Based on initial police investigation, the suspect was deserted by his wife because of marital problems and the children were left in his care.

Police said the three children were declared dead on arrival when they were brought to a community hospital.

Sophia was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Bajada, this city. The suspect is confined at a hospital on the island.
