BAGUIO CITY — The city government of Baguio has commended 15 para-athletes, who represented the city and brought home medals from the national Paralympic games, it was learned on Friday.
The City Council approved Resolution 162 series of 2018, commending the Persons With Disability (PWD) athletes and their coaches for bagging 10 gold, 14 silver, and eight bronze medals at the 2018 PHILSPADA National PARA Games (PNPG) held at Marikina Sports Center lay May.
The PWD athletes participated in athletics, powerlifting, badminton, and tenpin bowling in the national para-games.
Allan Campos bagged three golds and one silver in athletics and power lifting; two golds and two silvers for Jaime Manginga in tenpin bowling; one gold and three silvers for Agustina Bantiloc in powerlifting and athletics; one gold, one silver, and one bronze for Marc Gwyn Florez in athletics; one gold, one silver, and one bronze for John Joseph Magpantay in athletics event; one gold for Agustin Kitan in powerlifting; one gold for Romeo Tayawa in powerlifting, and one silver for Carlos Gamboc in badminton.
The other athletes who brought home medals in athletics were: Jackson Limmayog, two silvers; Victoria Elio, one silver; Jolina Tundagui, one silver and one bronze; Armando Gaw, one silver; Giovanni Ola, two bronze; Jeremiah Tundagui, two bronze; and April Dawn Mendoza, one bronze.
The group was coached by Rex Felix, a teacher at the Baguio City National High School, and playing coach Agustina Bantiloc, who also brought home one gold and three silver medals from the powerlifting and athletics event.
The council’s resolution manifested the city government’s full support to the national, regional, and international Paralympic games that the PWD athletes in the city will join in the future.
“The officialdom of the city of Baguio recognizes the dedication of PWD athletes for their victory, which deserves commendation for bringing glory and pride to their families and country, including the city of Baguio,” the city council resolution stated.
The recognition was part of the inclusive program of the city government of Baguio.
The recognition is timely in the PWD athletes’ honor, as part of the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) observed every third week of July, the resolution said. (Pamela Mariz Geminiano/PNA)
